Milo Edlen Underhill - Grand Master 1968
Milo Elden Underhill was born in Bellaire, Michigan on January 24,
1906. He attended Upper Peninsula schools and graduated from
Munising High School in 1923 and studied engineering at the University
of Michigan until 1927. He entered the life insurance field, and after
completing a five-year course, he became certified as a Chartered Life
Underwriter. In 1938 he became an agent of the New York Life
Insurance Company.
On May 19, 1929 he married Ethel Flo Trogler. They were blessed with
three daughters.
For thirty years, he was a very successful life underwriter, maintaining
his position as one of the company’s top producers. In fact, he attained
the insurance industry’s National Quality Award for sixteen consecutive
years.
He was raised as a Master Mason in Marquette Lodge No. 101 on
December 2, 1933. He was a member of the Francis M. Moore
Consistory and the other Coordinate Scottish Rite Bodies and a Noble
of the Mystic Shrine of Ahmed Temple, A.A.O.N.M.S. He served as
Illustrious Potentate in 1966. He was a member of Marquette Chapter.
No. 43, R.A.M.; and of Lake Superior Commandery No. 30, K.T. He was
active in organizing Job’s Daughters Bethel No. 16 and functioned as
the first Dad. He was also a member of the Marquette Masonic Association charged with the administration of the Marquette
Masonic Temple property.
In May 1962, he was elected as Worshipful Grand Marshal. With the passing of the years he was advanced in the Grand line.
He was elected as Most Worshipful Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of F. & A.M. in Detroit on May 29, 1968. During his term
of office there were 163,000 Masons in Michigan.
He died on May 16, 1995. His Past Grand Master’s Jewel has been handed down to MWB William LeVeque who wears it to
this day.
